Deep Dive Issue: NextNav Petition to the FCC
NextNav, Inc. (NextNav) has filed a Petition for Rulemaking with the FCC that seeks to have the agency reconfigure the 902-928 MHz band (the “Lower 900 MHz Band”) and adopt new rules to enable the deployment of a 5G terrestrial positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) network that is complimentary to GPS.
The security industry and a host of other industries have been using this spectrum openly, in tandem, and without charge to communicate data. Security devices such as cameras, sensors, and panic buttons use the band, as does public safety equipment [public safety risk]. It is anticipated that should the petition be approved by the FCC, the band will experience heavier traffic and that those currently relying on the spectrum will experience delayed and/or disrupted service.
Learn how TMA has taken an active role in collaboration with AICC, ESA and SIA to advocate for members in opposition to this petition.
